High School Junior Scholarships

Each year high school junior students have a chance to apply to attend the Utah Rural Electric Association (UREA) Youth Leadership Challenge to be eligible, the student’s immediate family must receive electric service from Dixie Power and the student must be attending a local high school.

Once students are selected to attend the five day, all expenses paid conference they have a chance to win one of the following awards:

$10,000 Dixie Escalante Power Scholarships to be awarded. One student selected to represent UREA at the NRECA National Youth Tour in Washington D.C. ($2,500)

Scholarships will be awarded to the participants with the highest points from the following areas: Following UREA rules and guidelines, attitude, participation, and a written test. Scholarships are awarded Thursday evening at the Conference.

The Conference is held in July each year and draws over 100 students representing seven electric cooperatives, and one telephone cooperative in four states. The Conference is held to acquaint youths with rural electric cooperatives, but lessons are also taught in politics and government along with self-esteem and self-improvement.

Applications are available in March, with a deadline the 30th of April.

High School Senior Scholarships

Each year Dixie Power awards scholarships to high school seniors. These seniors must meet certain criteria and are asked to submit an essay. Then they must be available for an interview if chosen as a finalist.

In order to apply for the scholarship, the senior must meet the following qualifications:

  • You and your family must be members/consumers of Dixie Power
  • You must be attending a local high school
  • You must be a high school senior on track for graduation, with a G.P.A. of 2.5 or higher (provide copy of G.P.A.)
  • You have not received a scholarship/award from Dixie Power in the past

Winners will be selected by a scholarship committee comprised of board members and other appointed individuals. All applicants are notified of the scholarship committee’s decision approximately 45 days following the application deadline. The application deadline for the Senior High School Scholarship is October 31,2017.
